About us

DONIS is an international studio of architecture, urbanism, research, industrial design and art. Winner of several international prizes including the Dubai Frame project among 926 proposals, DONIS is designing, developing and building numerous projects in different scales and programs, always aiming to create an innovative and sustainable architecture. Founded by Fernando Donis, who received his master from the Architectural Association in London and a PhD in architecture at TU Delft; Associate to Rem Koolhaas for nine years, Fernando Donis is the designer of the CCTV HQ in China, among many other projects for OMA. He has also been teacher at several universities in the Netherlands and Mexico.

The lamps celebrate two concurrent projects by DONIS—one built, one theoretical. On one hand, the new landmark of Dubai, the Dubai Frame, a project that frames the past and future of the city. On the other, the Frame PhD research, an urban-historical study of the archetype of the frame in Mexican culture.

As art objects, the lamps translate these ideas into the domestic and office scale, framing interior space and illuminating the everyday.
